Constitutional change towards Direct Democracy

Australia’s current governing system is an ‘illiberal democracy’ whereby non-democratic measures are implemented under
the facade of ‘democracy’.

There have been 29 federal elections in Australia since 1945, only three times has the party that has formed Government recieved over 50% of the popular vote – the last time was the Fraser Government in 1975 with 53%.

The will of the people is not being heard.

The voice referendum of October 2023 showed that a system of direct democracy can truly represent the people.

The current representative democracy with preferential & proportional voting must be reformed as it allows parties to manipulate the system and gain power with as little as 30% of the popular vote.

Switzerland has engaged in Direct Democracy since the Federal Charter of 1291 – over 700 years.
