Bring back Manufacturing
The Whitlam Government signed the Lima Declaration in 1975. This was a UN initiative with a stated aim of reducing Australia’s manufacturing by 30% in the name of ‘Global equity’.
The following are some of the measures that were taken:
- elimination of tariff, non-tariff & other obstacles of trade.
- facilitate development of policies to encourage foreign industries to be more competitive.
- increase the capacity of developing countries to process raw materials.
- increase financial contributions & credit to developing countries.
This declaration was signed without consultation. Australian manufacturing has been reduced by 80% since 1975. Every Government since has continued or expanded this program under the guise of ‘Internationalising’ the Australian economy.
This declaration must be rescinded, tariffs reinstated, and finance and credit made available for local industry to be competitive.
